The UCL Access and Widening Participation Office is delighted to welcome James Mannion to lead this interactive CPD event for teachers, focused on approaching metacognitive strategies in the classroom, or 'learning to learn'.
James recently completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, which focused on the evaluation of a whole school learning and skills programme, known as Learning Skills. The Learning Skills programme revealed statistically significant gains in subject learning across all curriculum areas, with accelerated gains among students from disadvantaged backgrounds (Mannion & Mercer, 2016).
The Teacher Takeaway will explore the implementation of the Learning Skills programme, how it draws upon metacognitive strategies, and also outline a set of practical steps teachers can take to use in their own classroom settings.
