“Building for the Future” is the 2018 theme of the annual July 4th Parade in Union Grove. There can be many interpretations of the theme for float builders to consider – and a patriotic theme is always appropriate. The floats are judged before the parade begins and ribbons and cash prizes awarded.
New this Year
New this year is a Business Category in the July 4th float building competition. The prize is yet to be determined, but the creators of the winning commercial float will have “bragging rights” and perhaps the first business name engraved on a Traveling Trophy.
It is noted that 2018 is the 100th Anniversary of the historic building at the corner of Highway 11 and Highway 45 which was home to the Racine-Kenosha County Training School for Teachers and is now the Union Grove Municipal Center. The building created the future for many beginning teachers. The History Seekers of Union Grove will hold a cornerstone opening celebration in September.
Parade Details
The Union Grove July 4th Parade assembles in the parking lot of the Racine County Fairgrounds on Highway 11. It begins at 9:15 am and travels east on Highway 11 and north on Highway 45 to the parking lot of the high school. A Kiddie Parade precedes the main parade at 9:00 am and travels from 12th & Main to the Village Square at 10th & Main.
Volunteers Needed
The parade is sponsored annually by the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Bixby-Hansen American Legion Post #171. Anyone interested in helping to plan and organize the parade is invited to the next Parade Committee meeting on April 6 at 4:00 pm in the Chamber of Commerce office. Call 262-878-4606 to volunteer.
