Mental health is a very prevalent, sensitive, and misunderstood issue in today's world. People often misunderstand mental illness as solely a physical problem caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Others mistakenly see it as a solely spiritual problem that is caused by not praying enough or having a lack of trust in God. What many don't see is that mental health should be viewed from both a scientific and a religious position in order to be properly understood.

“As I Am”, the first in a three-week series on mental health, will be a discussion to attempt to enlighten all about how we can better understand mental health in a Catholic context. We will discuss different types of mental illness and how mental illness is related to the spiritual life. We encourage everyone to come, whether you suffer from a mental illness, have a loved one who does, or think you have no experience with mental health issues. This information is important for everyone in today's society no matter where you fall on the spectrum.
