The Center for Community Outreach hosts Gabby Rivera as the keynote speaker for Into the Streets Week 2018! Gabby is an LGBTQ youth advocate and author of "Juliet Takes a Breath" and "America," featuring the first queer Latina superhero for Marvel comics.
After Gabby's opening remarks, the CCO will host a panel with Jai Nitz, Tamara Falicov, and Imani Wadud to engage KU students with a discussion that explores privilege and power, inclusivity in creative spaces, and how communities can have the capacity to be safe, empowering spaces.
Jai Nitz: Writer for DC comics, co-creator of El Diablo, and consultant for Suicide Squad and Coco.
Tamara Falicov: Professor of Film and Media Studies and Interim Associate Dean for Research in the Arts and Humanities.
Imani Wadud: American Studies PhD student, Chancellor Doctoral Fellow, and Research Mentor with the Wak'ó Mujeres Phu nu Womxn Mural Project associated with Womxn of Color (WoC) makers.
As members of a multicultural institution, the CCO's goal for ITSW 2018 is to bring diversity, collaboration, and representation to the forefront of conversations on how to make KU a more inclusive place.
Into the Streets Week is the CCO's annual, week-long event aimed at engaging KU students and the Lawrence community in service and advocacy. For more information, visit cco.ku.edu/itsw!
