The United Service Organizations (USO) has a 76 year history of providing services to service members and their families. It is a privately funded nonprofit organization chartered by Congress. They provide a multitude of services in peace and during conflicts intended to boost morale, entertainment and recreation. The mission of the USO is “strengthening America’s Service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country throughout their service to the nation”. A USO Fundraiser event will be held at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Georgetown, Saturday, September 15, 2018.
The funds raised will go a long way to ensure that the USO Fort Hood can continue to support our soldiers. Fort Hood is the largest military installation in the US with nearly 37,000 military personnel assigned and an additional 48,838 family members. The USO is there 24/7 to support these personnel with many programs. Some of these programs include lunch each day for soldiers, monthly story time early literacy for preschoolers, movies on the lawn, family game nights as well as supporting deployment ceremonies and welcome home ceremonies. They provide computers and internet access. Additionally, the USO is providing a unique program (USO Pathfinder Transition Services) in assisting soldiers and families who are transitioning out of the service and entering civilian life.
This assistance takes the form of connecting them to valuable resources such as: preparing resumes, translating military skills to civilian skills, and interview techniques and tips. These programs are supported by a staff of a few personnel and lots of volunteers.
The 2018 USO Fort Hood Yellow Ribbon GALA will be a terrific evening featuring a reception, a wonderful gourmet dinner, entertainment provided by the USO Show Troupe direct from Broadway, Silent Auction items and many wonderful Live Auction Packages. Your support for this GALA and the USO will mean so much to the soldiers and families at Fort Hood. Your support will insure that the USO Fort Hood can continue to support
the soldiers and families and even expand their programs.
