This 40 hour course will cover the basics of perinatal knowledge for birth workers. This course enhances the knowledge of doulas, student midwives, breastfeeding educators and other birth workers who want to know more about maternity healthcare, womb wellness and pregnancy. We will meet at Uzazi Village every Wednesday evening in March, April and 1st week of May, 5pm-9pm weekly. We will cover the following content:
March 7- Health Disparities and maternity history
March 14- Changes of Pregnancy
March 21- Prenatal Care
March 28- Labor and Birth
April 4- Fetal Assessment/Pain Management
April 11- Postpartum Care
April 18- Newborn Care/Lactation
April 25- Complementary Therapies for Birth
May 2- Basic Skills for Birthworkers
March 10- Birth Center Tour and Simulation Lab
This course is for birth workers of color and others who can demonstrate a desire for community-based work in communities of need. The fee for this course is $150 and attendees will be awarded 40 CEUs. Attendees will be expected to attend every class. The course is limited to 12 participants.
