Black folks are much more likely to experience postpartum depression, and other mood disorders following pregnancy, birth trauma due to a traumatic birth experience, and childbearing loss. If this describes your birth experience, then this monthly gathering is for you. Come, share your story with the village. Find compassion and maybe even healing. We will listen to your story, and hold you in community. We welcome positive birth stories as well but want to provide a space to those surviving difficult postpartum experiences. We will start our time together with a time of meditation and reflection, and engage in a simple service project while we listen and affirm one another's stories. This event is open to the Black community to share your story, or simply come and support those who share theirs. Each month we will work on a different project to support other village families. Bring a snack to share if you like, but snacks will also be provided. This meet up is facilitated by Mama Hakima, a village elder devoted to eliminating health disparities around birth in the Black community. Find peace, find love, find hope, find healing. Come to the birth story hour. (lap babies welcome)
