Danny Newcomb & The Sugarmakers
8:30pm - 10:00pm
Vashon Center for the Arts
Local Music Series
Sponsored by John L. Scott Vashon
Vashon Events is pleased to announce a new partnership with Vashon Center for the Arts to showcase local bands at the Katherine L. White Theater. The concerts will run from 8:30pm to 10:00pm and were made possible in part by a generous gift from John L. Scott – Vashon, the sponsor of the Local Music Series. Most all of these shows will be on First Fridays with a few exceptions.
We are thrilled that our local bands will now have increased access to use of the Katherine L. White Theater through this series that will feature local bands and musicians only. Typically, either a band will perform or three solo musicians will perform in the round.
For the performance on May 12th, we bring you Danny Newcomb & The Sugarmakers!
Kexp's Kevin Cole calls Islander Danny Newcomb's debut, "Masterwish" an "Instant Classic". Charles Cross says it's "one of the years' ten best records."
Danny's most recent CD is called "All The Way". Self-released and self-produced, All the Way was recorded in a newly-built studio in Newcomb’s attic. “I produced all the rough tracks besides the drums; I wrote all the vocals and guitar arrangements and then usually rewrote until I couldn’t think of a better word to write. I’ve never had the time before to sit with a song for a week and then go back and tear it down to the drums, rewrite the guitars, the words, the vocal melody, and then recut it all. I did that with half the tracks. I guess it sounds simple, sitting with something, but how often do we really get the chance? It’s only when you have to do it yourself.”
Danny Newcomb and the Sugarmakers is the latest incarnation for Danny, who has played lead guitar and songwritten since he was 10. Danny Newcomb was a founding member of Goodness, and toured over the States, opening for Cheap Trick, Elliot Smith, Pearl Jam and Oasis. Goodness released recordings on Atlantic, several ep's and another full length for Epic/Immortal. The band featured the siren vocals of Carrie Akre. He also helped to start the Rockfords with Mike McCready and released a full-length record for Epic and an ep. He and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) grew up on the same street, got their first guitars in the same week and played in Shadow -- a punk metal band through their childhood.
The Sugarmakers are: Rick Friel, bass, Faith E. Vicious, Percussion and backups, and Eric Eagle on the drums.
