Celebrating our critically-acclaimed exhibition Opera: Passion, Power and Politics, join us for a spectacular weekend of live performances, screenings, pop-up events and fascinating talks.

Screening: Garsington Opera presents Handel’s Semele
Friday 10 & Saturday 11 November

Featuring some of Handel’s most exquisitely beautiful music, with soaring choruses and splendid orchestral writing, Semele is a touching and humorous opera.


V&A Opera Residents Open Studio

Visit our first Opera Residents Metta Theatre and learn more about the new opera “Roles” they are developing during their residency. Created in collaboration with composer Oliver Brignall, “Roles” will explore canonical female characters while emancipating them from the historically male gaze.

Family Art Fun: Pop-up Performance – The Music Maestro

This is a promenade performance which moves around the museum.


Screening: The Cunning Little Vixen

In this innovative and award-winning BBC animated film adaptation of Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, we enter the long-ago and faraway world of Vixen Sharp Ears. The screening will be introduced by animation director Geoff Dunbar and producer Rodney Wilson, and followed by a Q&A session.



Royal College of Music pop up performance

Birth of an Opera House

Join the team behind Grange Park Opera and discover how through an incredible combination of circumstances, hard work and an inspirational funding drive, a 700 seater U-shaped opera house – the first in the UK for generations – was planned and built in just 22 months.



The Art of the Prima Donna

Why does the world swoon at the sound and sight of prima donnas? What is so special about these extraordinary creatures of the stage? Join scholar Matteo Augello as he tries to answer these questions through a performance-come-lecture bringing 400 years of opera history back to life.
