Join us as we cut the ribbon on our brand new Independent Living Arrangement. Each year in Virginia, at a higher rate than any other state in the country, hundreds of young people leave the foster care system at age 18 before they have been connected to permanent families. Without adequate family and community supports, these youth "age out" of care and are at high risk of some dire consequences. In an effort to provide housing and support services for these youth, Virginia Home for Boys and Girls (VHBG) has opened of an Independent Living Arrangement (ILA) on its 30+ acre property near Parham and Broad Streets in Henrico County. Join us as we celebrate this opportunity for youth to transition to adulthood.
We'll convene in one of the soon-to-be-occupied ILA apartments, hear remarks from our VHBG president (Claiborne Mason), cut a ceremonial ribbon, and conclude with light refreshments.
We've invited legislators, partners, funders, board members, and interested stakeholders. We encourage you to forward this invitation to anyone you think would be interested.
