“Walking These Streets: The #BlackLivesMatter Imperative for Queer, Trans, and Cis Bodies”
The Rev. Dr. Pamela Lightsey
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Meadville Lombard Theological School

This lecture will address the essential work of movement building for liberation and justice to be recognized for Black people. It will highlight the ways activism must attend to and value Black LGBTQ persons if it is, in fact, to be relevant for all Black people specifically and our nation, more broadly speaking. Its most primary focus is the struggle to overcome the body boundaries set forth by patriarchal, homophobic and racist perspectives. Dr. Lightsey’s publications include the full manuscript “Our Lives Matter: A Womanist Queer Theology” (Wipf and Stock), “Reconciliation” in Prophetic Evangelicals: Envisioning a Just and Peaceable Kingdom (Eerdmans), and a work in progress “Blinking Red: The Escalation of a Militarized Police Force and Its Challenges to Black Communities.”
