A Womb Of My Own (Mistakes Were Made) by Hernease Davis
First Friday Opening
VSW is excited to present a solo exhibition of work by Hernease Davis from her series A Womb of My Own (Mistakes Were Made in Development). The project includes photograms, cyanotypes, sound pieces, crocheted pillows and blankets, and performance. Describing part of her process, the artist writes, “All of my photograms were and will be made in my living room. In complete darkness, I set up my paper and I lay down. This 48” x 60” space is a surface for expression, meditation, anger, rest, etc. When I am ready, I trigger my flash. Each panel is developed individually to complete the image, but also serves as another quiet space of self-care.”
VSW Press will be publishing a book by Davis in connection with the exhibition and she will be a visiting faculty member in VSW’s Summer Institute teaching workshop.
Artist in attendance. Free and open to the public.
