VITA ART CENTERS art classes provide high-quality enrichment experiences in the visual arts. Classes are taught by professional artists and instructors who design fun, challenging and educational projects taught in a hands-on studio environment.

TEEN CLASSES
SURREALIST PEN AND INK
Week 1: June 18 - June 22, 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $120.ºº,
Instructor: Lauren Volk. Explore the depths of your imagination. Reveal your wildest dreams. By using the techniques of the Surrealists, explore your subconscious as a valid form of reality. In this course students will be given a solid foundation in basic drawing techniques (contour drawing, cross hatching, scumbling, etc.) and the elements and principles of design (color, line, space, etc.) Then they will learn about the Surrealists and their revolutionary attempts to plum the subconscious and release their true creative potential. For their project, students will take what they have learned and merge it all together to create dream-like, surreal images inspired by the works of Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Merit Oppenheim, and their contemporaries.

VISUAL JOURNALING
Week 2: June 25 - June 29, 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Lauren Volk. Combining journaling and art, this class offers participants a unique opportunity to explore a variety of techniques in journal making, drawing, painting, collage, and more. Visual journaling is about connecting with your inner self and expressing yourself freely. This class will look at the intersections between imagination and making, sharpen observational skills, and a kick-start a practice of journaling.

MIXED MEDIA PAINTING
Week 3: July 2 - July 6 (no class July 4), 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $100.ºº
Instructor: Daniel Barnett. Mixed media painting class emphasizing loose and creative exploration. Working with acrylic paint you will explore many techniques for creating texture and composition with paint, collage, stencils and printmaking. Painting experience is not essential.Projects will encourage creative expression, concept development, and advancement of painting skills.

FIGURE & PORTRAIT
Week 4: July 9 - July 13, 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Colin Fraser Gray .
Figure & portrait drawing are used to heighten skills of observation. Simple tools are taught which help students see the relationships of forms, shapes and values to each other and to the whole. Underlying anatomy is discussed to support the structure of the drawing. Students will draw from a costumed or draped model during this course

5 DAY PAINTING INTENSIVE
Week 5: July 16 - July 20, 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Daniel Barnett. In this painting course, learn key elements including tone, form, light, space and color. Practice sighting, proportion, color mixing and paint handling through a variety of approaches. Work with a professional teaching artist to develop color theory, brush strokes, tone and color. This course focuses on developing technical skill, while exploring shape, form, and value.

5 DAY DRAWING INTENSIVE
Week 6: July 23 - July 27, 1pm - 4pm, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Colin Fraser Gray , The class will draw with a variety of media including graphite, ink and charcoal. Students engage in drawing projects that encourage creative expression, concept development, and advancement of basic drawing skills. We will draw 3D objects to increase knowledge of the effects of light on form, volume and line.

CERAMICS
Week 7: July 30 - Aug 3, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Sonya Burke & Sara Beckton. learn various hand building techniques for forming clay to create pottery and sculpture, you will also build your skills throwing on the wheel and learn techniques in creating texture and applying glazes.

ILLUSTRATION & GRAPHIC DESIGN
Week 8: August 6 - August 10, Fees: $120.ºº
In this course, students will learn to develop their graphic design skills. They will be working on two projects: first an illustrated travel brochure and then a cd cover using graphic elements. Through the assigned projects, students will learn foundational design principles, including balance, unity, contrast, shape, line, and value. They will also be encouraged to explore the world of hand drawn typography. Students will start with the travel brochure. They will explore the elements of design and be instructed on the importance of research in the development of a detailed illustration. Then they will move on to the cd cover project and be allowed to explore the process of visual communication through simple graphic elements.

METALSMITHING 101
Week 9: Aug. 13 - Aug. 17, Fees: $120.ºº
Instructor: Michele Wilson-Petit. In this workshop we will design and create our own metal charms while learning metalsmithing skills. Students can choose to create a necklace or bracelet over the course of the week as we work with a variety of techniques including soldering.

Instructor: Daniel Barnett. Students improve drawing skills while learning to draw animals. We will focus on proper proportion, shading, and detail to render realistic animals. JEWELRY DESIGN
Week 8: August 6 - August 10,1pm-4pm, Fees: $100.ºº
Instructor: Maribel Hernandez. Eager to learn how to design and make your own unique jewelry? Students will design and create their own jewelry. Basic wire wrapping methods are taught. Students will also make their own beads and pendants out of ceramics, glass, and paper. Throughout the week students will make necklaces, earrings, and broaches. GET CHARMED, METALSMITHING

Instructor: Mary Perez & Colin Gray. Attention nature lovers! Nature will be the source of inspiration and fun all week. We will draw, experiment and use nature in our art making. Throughout this fun week young artists will observe and draw nature while learning techniques to improve their drawing skills. We will also be exploring different art forms such as painting and mixed media. Campers will look to the many wonders of nature to experiment and use in our art making.

Instructor: Kathleen Kaller. Designed for children ages 4 and up, we will explore different mediums and forms of painting while embracing the power of self-expression using the visual language of color and shape. There will be a break in the middle for the kids to snack, connect and play. We will end by finishing work and reflecting on our projects.
