Please Join us on Monday, April 9th from 6-8:30 for this month's Meditate & Create!

**New: Due to enthusiasm for this class, everyone must register online (see the link below) to reserve a spot in this class. This includes students who have already paid for 4-packs. If you have not yet paid or are a new student, please pay at registration. If you register and then need to cancel, please observe our new 48-hour cancellation policy so we have time to give our wait-list notice. Thank you :) **

We will relax with a guided meditation followed by a contemplative art project, tea, and discussion. No experience necessary! All materials provided.

This month's theme is Creativity and Loneliness: An exploration of different roots of loneliness and an experience of the healing balm of the creative process as a way to discover and integrate orphaned parts of ourselves.

“Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self."
― May Sarton

“Solitude is not the same as loneliness. Solitude is a solitary boat floating in a sea of possible companions.”
―Robert Fulghum

“At the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning for union with one's lost self.”
―Brendan Behan

About Meditation: As we sit in chairs around the art tables, the group will be guided through four types of meditation: progressive relaxation, guided visualization, vipassana or "clear seeing" meditation, and metta or "loving kindness" meditation. Each kind of meditation offers a different way to to bring the mind to the present moment with relaxation and awareness. As an added bonus, many experience meditation as a way to befriend or surpass our inner critic when it comes to making art. No experience or special props are necessary. New and seasoned practitioners are welcome.

About Contemplative Art: Following the meditation, we will make art. Our class theme determines the art project. Unlike academy art where a final product is the goal, we focus on the process, self-expression, cultivating creativity, and the experience of using art to explore our present-moment experience. Although there is not right or wrong way to make art in this class, each project has clear guidelines, goals, and material demonstrations to work with. All materials are provided. No experience is necessary. New and experienced artists are welcome.
