Presented by VIVO Media Arts and the Western Front, “Internal Landscapes: B.C. (dis)embodied” features works by Jessica Johnson, Melissa General, Ryan Ermacora, Barry Doupé and Yota Kobayashi. These video, film and computer animation works are diverse in scope but are tied together as interpretations, reflections and assertions about landscape. Within a great terrain of practices using moving-image, the artists pursue themes of nature, landscapes, and the historical/colonial narratives that elaborate and grow our ideas of land. These works are poetic, performative, and showcase the active emerging Canadian media art scene on the west coast.
