INDIANAPOLIS – In celebration of the Warren Central High School boys and girls basketball team’s historic IHSAA State Championship wins, as well as the school’s winning Winter Guard and state finalist Special Olympians, Mayor Joe Hogsett will join the far eastside for a parade to highlight these outstanding athletes, followed by a community pep session at Warren Central High School.
“The athletes at Warren Central High School represent what makes Indianapolis so special – young talent with a passion for competition,” said Mayor Hogsett. “Whether by cheering along the parade route, or joining in the festivities in the Warren Central gymnasium, I encourage all in our city to join me in celebrating these incredible teams.”
In February, Warren Central girls basketball team claimed the first state title for the school in their sport, beating Zionsville in the final game. Warren Central boys basketball team followed suit in March, winning the IHSAA state final as the first boys basketball team in Indiana to finish undefeated since 2009, and the first in state history to finish 32-0. The Warren Central Winter Guard capped off a successful year of competition in January, returning from Japan as not only the first U.S. team to compete in this international competition, but as the Winter Guard International Regional Champions. In addition, the Warren Central Special Olympics team are state finalists for the upcoming Special Olympics State Championship Game.
