Every year the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) organizes a day where volunteers travel to Washington DC and schedule appointments with our congressmen and women, to speak with them about the impact of recent immigration policy changes and to always urge for the passage of fair, just, and sensible immigration reform.
It's often a frustrating and thankless task, even when the party in the White House is open to constructive immigration reform. It's not uncommon for volunteers to end up talking to a lot congressional assistants with little influence over their boss's opinions. Regardless, it is valuable work. To take the time to travel to our nation's capitol and seek to speak with our representatives shows more determination and sincerity than a letter of phone call.
Our office thanks all National Day of Action volunteers this year. Passionate dialogue and the presentation of accurate information is always a worthwhile task.
