Please join visiting artist Haydee Alonso for an artist talk at 5pm followed by art making in the gallery.

Haydee Alonso is a graduate of and University of Texas at El Paso and the Royal College of Art in London was awarded a grant from the Artist Incubator Program, a grant from the Museum of Cultural Affairs Department in El Paso Texas, where she has taught art to women at the Otero County Prison Facility aging from 25-years-old to 65-years-old and mainly from Central and South America. Some of the mediums used have been origami, watercolor and weaving and her work was featured by NowThis Her in a video which was viewed over 350,000 times.

This program is part of 1,954 Miles, a group show curated by our third and final Curatorial Resident, Harry Sanchez Jr.

With his exhibition, 1,954 Miles Wave Harry Sanchez Jr. aims to give a voice to a few artists from La Frontera, to use the space as a megaphone to represent the complex thoughts and feelings that come from people living in the contested border between Mexico and the United States.

This program is in conjunction with The Welcome Project's grand re-opening celebration. Be sure to visit both!
