“Rhode Island's Industrial Revolution: The Rise and Fall of an Empire”

Screening, followed by Q and A with documentary filmmaker, Joseph Lyons.

This hour-long film by Joseph Lyons, anthropological educator and cycling enthusiast, explores the old rail corridor that is now the Washington Secondary Bike Path (encompassing the West Warwick Greenway) from the Connecticut border and north into Pawtucket at the Slater Mill. It looks at the mills and villages that started to appear in the late 18th century with the onset of the Industrial Revolution, all the way up to up to the massive, 8-month long strike that paralyzed the Rhode Island economy as the labor movement grew in intensity in the first half of the 20th century.
