William & Mary Theatre will produce a devised theatre piece as it's 4th main stage show of the 2018-19 season. This devised production will be the culmination of a semesters work where students and faculty will collaborate to develop a new work for the theatre, drawing on a plurality of perspectives, experiences, interests, cultures, languages, skills, and stories.
We are interested in people who want to create -- as writers, performers, and designers.
This devised theatre-making process explores theatre as a collaborative, risk-taking and holistic creation, incorporating movement, text, music, spectacle, and site.
Students will be part of an immersive learning experience that devises from different starting points:
- An international spectrum of folk tales/legends
- The architecture of historically layered sites on campus
- Personal narrative and interpretation
Coursework for this course includes opportunity for a 1 credit introductory workshop taken in Fall 2018 and a new Coll 400 course ("Total Theatre") offered in the Spring of 2019.
Faculty advisers and participants for this devised theatre piece include Matt Allar, Joan Gavaler, Steve Holliday, Mark Lerman, Claire Pamment, Tric Wesp, and Liz Wiley.
