Most of the time we exist in mindlessness, a state of semi-awareness governed by habit and inattention. Mindlessness causes us to suffer, probably more than we are even aware. Mindfulness can be defined in a variety of ways, but simply stated it is a deliberate way of paying attention to what is happening within oneself as it is happening. Mindfulness is moment-by-moment awareness. It’s paying attention without judgment or evaluation. When we are mindful, we become more mentally alert, we’re more open and attentive and we’re able to perceive ourselves more clearly – as well as observing details that often escape our notice. If you can identify with any of these statements, you may find this monthly group very helpful.
