Nature education, bushcraft skills and forest school for home educating families with activities suitable for children of all ages. Our summer term of fortnightly sessions promise to be jam packed with engaging outdoor learning for our older children and plenty of child-led woodland activities for younger ones. All sessions are led by experienced tutors.
If you're new to our club and want to find out more about how our Pathfinders Home Ed sessions work, just follow the link on this page to our website where you can get more details.
We have created a two tier structure to our sessions which offers the option for either structured outdoor learning with an experienced tutor or child-led outdoor activities in the spirit of Forest School. This appeals both to parents who want a child-led session and those who want a structured, alternative curriculum for their kids from a teacher in an outdoor setting.
Sessions are based at Felin Puleston Outdoor Centre which provides parking, facilities and use of an activity room and kitchen should the weather turn against us. Our group runs fortnightly on Tuesdays. Sessions run from 11am-2pm. You can see a typical session timetable further down this page.
The campfire is always burning, so you are welcome to cook your own lunch outdoors. In fact many of our families share a hot lunch together as a group and we encourage this.
Here's how the two tier structure works...
FOREST SCHOOL HOME ED GROUP (0 - 7 years)
Forest School style child-led activities and play, based around the campfire circle and Outdoor Centre grounds. A range of activity stations will be set up so that children can try their hands at everything from the ever popular mud kitchen (for little ones) to basic knife whittling (for older children). Kids can dive into our woodland den building area or go river dipping to see what water life they discover in their nets. Our Activity Leader will support the play and learning that takes place.
This is also a space for home educating families to socialise with others in their community, around the campfire.
LEARNING GROUP (8 - 16 years)
Structured outdoor learning led by an experienced tutor. We take children through a programme of outdoor education which includes everything from using ancient fire-lighting techniques to tree identification to river ecology. The class size is limited to a maximum of 9 children so that kids get a favourable child to adult ratio. Our aim is to give high quality tutoring for your children, making the most of the rich natural resources around us.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and child-friendly drinks will be available at the Forest School campfire.
Use of our kitchen equipment, bowls, plates and cutlery are provided for any food you would like to cook on the campfire.
There will be a Woodland Classroom leader with each group at all times and parents are welcome to assist with activities if they want to.
We have access to the Erddig estate as well as proper toilets and use of the activity rooms and kitchen for learning and cooking in poor weather if required. Parking is FREE.
