Sat 4/14, Bag Bootcamp & Zipper Pocket Sewing 101 Intensive, 10-4pm. (Includes $32- of supplies/ leather & waxed canvas)

In our most popular sewing class, we spend 5 hours covering various elements of Sewing 101 and part of a second level class that shows you more in depth projects, giving you more hands on practice to get you comfortable with working a sewing machine!

You will begin by learning how to operate a sewing machine, from there will learn basic sewing skills including how to use a simple handmade pattern, perform a few different machine stitches, as well as the ins and outs of different fabrics, fabric grain & proper cutting techniques. You will learn how to insert zippers, creating a zipper pouch for whatever goodies you want to store. You make turn & stitch hem edges, add a pocket, work with up to 3 fabrics (cotton, canvas & waxed canvas) then rivet handcut leather handles (yes we cut them from a leather hyde). You will walk out having finished a brand new, beautiful, sturdy and on trend bag with leather trims made by you! All of these are handy skills you learn are ideal for basic garment construction as well as creating more projects at home and feelin' yourself as you start to slay at sewing.

This is an intensive class that will last 5ish hours, feel free to bring a snack/ refreshments and leave the hangovers at home. After all, this is bootcamp folks!

Supplies Needed: None. We supply all fabric. Also, You’ll be using a simple Janome 2212. Please do not bring your own machine.

Fabric: We do supply basic fabrics including denim or canvas for your main bag body. In addition we have waxed canvas, which is weather resistant and very nice- if youd like to make your whole bag out of waxed canvas- we just ask for an additional $8.00 at class to cover the difference in fabric costs.

Teacher Bio: Jenn Gooch is wandering Texan living in the region for more than 10 years. Her work includes art (fiber, sculpture, performance, video), crafts (weaving, sewing, quilting, embroidery, basketry), and music (fiddle, flatfoot dance, guitar, piano, and vocals). Jenn recently relocated to the Ohio Valley region, 70 miles outside of Pittsburgh, to start a food and fiber farm with her partner.
