The Department of Theatre & Dance (THAD) at Winona State University (WSU) will present “Hot l Baltimore,” by Lanford Wilson, Wednesday, April 11, through Sunday, April 14, in the Vivian Fusillo Mainstage Theatre located in the Performing Arts Center. Performance times are 7:30PM Wednesday through Saturday.
This comedy takes place in the lobby of a rundown hotel so seedy that it has lost the “e” from its marquee. Eavesdrop on the comings and goings of an eccentric group of residents as the day for the wrecking ball gets closer to the once classy hotel that the social outcasts call home. Watch as their worlds get turned upside down as they now all face the uncertainty of an already uncertain future.
“Winner of the New York Drama Circle Award, the Obie Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award. A brilliant Off-Broadway success by an outstanding playwright, which brings compassion, humor and arresting theatricality to its imaginative, touching study of lost souls trapped by society’s inexorable decay.”
“Hot L Baltimore” was a television series adapted from the play script in 1975. The series was produced by Norman Lear, who later created “All in the Family,” “Sanford and Son,” “Maude,” “Good Times, and “The Jeffersons.”
“Hot l Baltimore” is directed by Jim Williams.
