WWU’s Campus Recreation Department is hosting the university’s first-ever 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament on Saturday, April 14 at the Wade King Student Recreation Center!
The tournament, dubbed Vikings on Wheels, is open to everyone (able-bodied and people with disabilities) and all skill levels. No prior experience in wheelchair basketball is necessary! Sport wheelchairs will be provided as needed for participants.
The event gets underway at noon and will feature an exciting 3-on-3 half-court format with games lasting 20 minutes. Teams will play a minimum of three games, with an eventual champion crowned at the end of the afternoon.
Registration is free for WWU students. Faculty, staff and community members cost $10 per person. Anyone interested in competing may register a whole team of 3 or 4 players, or register individually as a free agent and get placed on a team by tournament staff. The tournament is open to anyone age 15 or older.
For newcomers to wheelchair basketball, Vikings on Wheels is a fun way for students and community members alike to learn about new and challenging adaptive sports. Event proceeds benefit Campus Recreation’s efforts to provide additional adaptive sports opportunities at Western.
