We're throwing a belter this Friday evening when we punch out the best from Of Monsters & Men and Mumford & Sons!
Of Monsters and Men are one band who have found a rapid rise from the time of forming to crash land the number one spot on the Australian, Ireland, Iceland and the U.S. Rock and Alternative Charts. Originating in Iceland as a fun side project that entered a local battle of the bands, their single "Little Talks" propelled their debut to the top of the charts in their homeland whilst gaining attention in America. With performances on Saturday Night Live building their profile in the States, they toured extensively across the globe with appearances at huge festivals Lollapalooza and Glastonbury... Here down under, "Little Talk" ended up second that year on Triple J's hottest 100; it was a corker track that one! Did you get into last years Beneath the Skin LP? Not bad! It was cool seeing them in Game of Thrones whilst6 also teasing one their Instagram that album number three was on its way!
So we've planned to highlight Mumford & Sons and their brand of alternative folk rock! Hailing from Britannia, they blazed their own initial path by remaining independent despite label interest as they toured and self funded their debut LP Sigh No More. Allowing themselves the complete creative freedom of being unsigned, the record found a licensing arrangement and produced the huge single "Little Lion Man"; a track that gets an absolute work out on the YY's dance floor! Performing the song on late night American programs such as Letterman, and having it smashed on radio by disc jockeys such as Zan Lowe who proclaimed it "Hottest Record in the World", the track catapulted the band to stardom. Let's refresh your memory that Mumford & Sons earned Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rock Song ("Little Lion Man") and they performed their single "The Cave" at the Grammy ceremony which kept things rolling along for the quartet. It's hard not to harp on about that first record, especially when that dope lead single won the Hottest 100, though the following two in Babel and Wilder Mind are not exactly chopped liver! Singles like "I Will Wait", "Lovers of Light", "Babel", "Believe", "The Wolf" and "Just Smoke" have really cemented that these lads know how to write hooks to keep us coming back hey? Give us new music!!
So we're going late for this one and it should be a ripper night! So come along and scuff our dance floor up whilst we highlight the best from these two dope bands. Our DJ’s will be smashing out the best from both bands, along with all your fav’ indie bangerz!
