While yoga can be beneficial for anyone, yoga practice is especially effective as a complementary treatment for addiction.
The essence of addiction is disconnection and dysregulation (dysregulation is the inability to regulate one’s internal state). Addiction is the impulsive compulsion and obsession to change the way we feel by relying on external sources (drugs, sex, gambling, relationships…).
Recovery Yoga Meetings™ (RYM) combine the principles of recovery with yoga practice to provide a safe space for peers and allies in the recovery community to integrate their mental, emotional, and spiritual recovery into their physical bodies.
In this training, yoga teachers* will learn how to develop and teach a Recovery Yoga class, and facilitate Recovery Yoga Meetings™ (RYM). Participants will explore how yoga offers those in recovery the awareness and the discipline that make it possible to rediscover and reconnect with all aspects of the self.
*Prerequisite: This training is open to yoga teachers who have completed a 200-hour teacher training.
