If you are looking for an intense yet playful boost in your practice, sign up and join Marysia Do and the rest of the high flying crew! Marysia’s teaching style is very much inclusive so don’t be shy. Each class will incorporate Surya Namaskar H. Surya H (for handstand) is sequence designed to help students learn and increase their stability in handstands. Classes will also feature hip openers, arm balances, twists and backbends.
Learning advanced postures and transitions can be really hard. You will fall, you will flail and you will have lots of fun doing so with friends and with Marysia’s guidance. As these classes are inevitably mixed level Marysia is always certain to keep everyone sufficiently challenged but not overwhelmed. We all gotta start somewhere and there is no ceiling to the practice, there is always more! In class you be given unique exercises to stretch and strengthen in a way that is specific to your individual needs. Feel free to come with particular goals in mind and Marysia will do her very best to make them possible for you. Although your muscles are likely to get soar your spirit will soar as well!
Session 1: Inversions
Friday 6:30-8:30pm, $45
As intimidating as inversions can be, the alignment cues for practicing them are quite consistent. The work is stabilizing the mind and connecting the mind to the body while being in a bit of a precarious position. To make inversions more accessible Marysia will have you practice the alignment in standing poses and other postures that are more familiar. Once your body becomes well acquainted with the appropriate muscular contractions we then take it upside down into a flying flow. During the flow analysis is set aside and we practice trusting ourselves. Work hard, play hard, rest.
Saturday Sessions 2 & 3, $55
Session 2: Twists and Arm Balances, 11-12:30pm
Twists can lubricate the spine, massage the internal organs and strengthen the obliques. Twists are also used for leverage in many arm balances such as twisted crow, fallen angel and more. In class Marysia will lead you though a flow to increase your mobility, strengthen your obliques and give your more power to flow into and out of twisted arm balances and inversions.
30min break, 12:30-1pm
Session 3: Hip Openers, Twists and Arm Balances, 1-2:30pm
Increasing hip mobility means learning how to decipher between helpful and harmful pain. Marysia will teach you how to differentiate between the two. In class you will learn innovative and highly effective techniques to enhance the mobility in your hips and make arm balances such as koundinyasa 2, flying pigeon and others more accessible. The postures are a progression and in this strong flow class Marysia will take you though various exercises to advance your arm balancing, and hip opening practice.
Sunday Sessions 4 & 5 $55
Session 4: Back Bends, 11-12:30pm
The alignment cues person to person in back bends are very variable. Back pain is the most common yoga related injury. In class Marysia will show you unique techniques to keep your spine safe while moving into more advanced back bending postures. Class is a flow intended to make you more aware of this long part of your body, which is outside of your field of vision. With greater awareness you will find yourself moving with precision and confidence.
30min break, 12:30-1pm
Session 5: MishMash 1-2:30pm
Yoga Party!! This celebratory flow is the culmination of the week’s practice. Class will focus on dynamic transitions that link the studied postures playfully and safely. You will float, fly, fall and have a ball!!
