MDA and Jefferson East Bank Consolidated Fire Fighters Host Special Kick Off Event on Friday, April 13, 2018 for Annual Fill the Boot Campaign

WHAT: A special kick off event for the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign is being hosted by members of the Jefferson Parish East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), to free individuals – and the families who love them – from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life.

A reading of Parish President Michael S. Yenni proclamation to declare April 13, 14, and 15, 2018 as “MDA Fill the Boot Days” to kick off the fire fighters' annual Fill the Boot drive to help fight to free individuals, and the families who love them, from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy so they can live longer and grow stronger.

WHY: The kick-off event on Friday, April 13, 2018 continues this firefighter tradition for more than 60 years, matching the nobility and strength of MDA families to help give individuals the strength to live longer and grow stronger.

More than 200 members of the Jefferson East Bank Consolidated Fire Department will greet motorist on the street all over the city, asking them to make a donation in support of MDA’s mission to help free individuals from the harm of muscle diseases that take away everyday freedoms like walking, hugging, playing and even breathing.

Funds raised through 2018 Jefferson East Bank Consolidated Fill the Boot events help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the four MDA Care Centers: Children’s Clinic and Neuromuscular Clinic located at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, an adult Care Center and MDA/ALS Care Center located at LSU Healthcare Network in New Orleans. They also help send more than 100 Louisiana kids to a life-changing experience in an environment without barriers at MDA Summer Camp at Camp Starlite - all at no cost to their families.
