Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Hypnobabies Doula
Having two of my own children, both amazing water births at home, taught me the importance of having highly-trained care providers who support evidence-based practices and who nurture mothers by trusting their bodies to do what they are designed to do—have babies. I bring this trust into my work with my clients, while at the same time making sure they have the knowledge they need to make their own decisions in the unpredictable world of birth. To do this I offer my clients education in prenatal and postpartum visits, as well as, an extensive library of books, DVDs, and CDs, to help them further their learning and support their journey into parenting. I work with families to shift their fear around childbirth—which is so prevalent in this culture—into trust and anticipation of birth as an empowering, transformative experience. And I extend this space to breastfeeding and helping moms trust their babies and their own instincts for optimal feeding.
Since 2008 I have worked as a doula—first in Austin, Texas, and now in Denver and the surrounding area. I have birth and postpartum certifications from DONA International, the largest training organization in the country, and I am trained as a Hypnobabies doula. I use my Masters degree in Gender/Cultural Studies to inform my practice and my perspective, while continuing to gain knowledge from clients, new research, and fellow doulas. Also, I consistently add to my training by attending workshops and conferences, including “Supporting the Family-Centered Cesarean,” “Advanced Comfort Measures,” and “Supporting a Woman with an Epidural,” and I look forward to taking my bereavement training with Stillbirthday in 2015. I am a member of the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services, Lamaze International, and the Colorado Doula Association, as well as House of Doula. House of Doula has been a wonderful group to help me network in Denver. The sup
