To conduct research on real-world patterns of academic and professional communication in English, on the design of specialized language assessments, and on measuring the effectiveness of specific instructional methods for advanced language learning.
To offer English language support services for international students, post-docs, faculty and visiting scholars to enhance their skill and confidence in advanced academic and professional English, for career success.
To provide language assessment services to university programs to assist in evaluating the English language skills of prospective and current international students, post-docs, and visiting scholars for admission, placement, and hiring.
To create programs to promote effective and engaged intercultural communication and learning within the university community, including an Intercultural Partners program, workshops for faculty and staff on communicating effectively with internationals and a multi-phase study abroad enhancement program to help students maximize language and intercultural learning experiences for a global marketplace.
|Description||EPPIC is part of Penn State’s internationally-recognized Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State, and draws on the cutting-edge scholarship of its world-renowned scholars in the design of its research projects and service offerings. Our faculty are innovators in the areas of second language learning, multilingual academic writing, World Englishes, corpus linguistics, classroom communication, language assessment, discourse analysis, and language teacher education, providing key foundations for EPPIC’s research, teaching and outreach.|
