|About||The European Australian Business Council (EABC) is a peak business organisation promoting trade and investment between Europe and Australia|
The European Australian Business Council (EABC) is one of the active corporate forums in Australia. The Council provides a platform for business leaders to engage with political leaders, officials, diplomats and their counterparts in Europe on economic and public policy developments affecting the Australia-Europe economic relationship.
The European Union is Australia’s most important economic partner and is the world’s largest single market - with a population of more than 500 million, and an annual GDP in excess of $A16 trillion. The EU is Australia's largest source of foreign investment (with two-way investment in excess of $1.7 trillion), largest partner for a rapidly-growing services trade, and second largest partner overall in terms of total goods and services.
Since the EABC’s establishment in 1999, our members have contributed greatly towards forging stronger business and institutional links between Europe and Australia, working in close partnership with the EU Institutions in Brussels and European governments, and with Australian Federal and State governments.
The Council has long-championed a more ambitious economic framework for the bilateral relationship through the negotiation of a comprehensive Australia-EU free trade agreement, and looks forward to the launch of formal negotiations in 2017.
As part of its annual programme, the EABC organises each year a Business Mission to Europe, as an initiative to strengthen bilateral relationships with European leaders, institutions, officials, peak business groups and policy organisations. These missions travel to Brussels as the political and administrative capital of the European Union, and to other major centres across Europe.
