Programme Goals for MBBS
At the end of MBBS programme the graduates will be able to
Describe the structure and function in normal and disease states of the human body.
Diagnose and treat common diseases in Sri Lanka.
Recognize serious diseases in the early stages and institute appropriate actions.
Recognize disease outbreaks & epidemics at local, national and global level and take appropriate actions.
Describe other diseases, which illustrate important principles in medical science or are of major public health importance in a global context.
Deal with medical emergencies with the available resources and be aware of what can be done in ideal circumstances.
Carryout basic medico legal procedures including postmortem examination.
Apply principles of behavioral sciences to health & promotion of peace through health in the practice of medicine.
Recognize limitation of their professional skills and available facilities, identify such conditions and refer appropriately.
Apply health statistics and demographic data with emphasis on trends with special reference to Sri Lanka.
Recognize social, economic and cultural factors relevant to the practice of medicine in Sri Lanka.
Recognize the roles of different health professionals & function effectively in a health team and with other sections of the community and be able to take a leadership role when necessary.
Assess evidence, both as to its reliability and relevance and to appreciate that conclusions are reached by logical deductions.
Self educate, continuously keeping abreast of advancing knowledge and develop an aptitude for medical research.
Respond to patient and their families with empathy and to counsel them when necessary.
Undertake Disease prevention, health promotion, health education and rehabilitation and promote a healthy environment.
Apply ethical and legal principles and professionalism relating to individual doctor-patient relationship, interaction with other health professionals and with soci
