Fairfield University School of Engineering offers ABET accredited programs with a liberal arts core, strong industrial ties and a low student-faculty ratio
The mission of Fairfield's engineering program is to graduate liberally educated engineers equipped with knowledge and experiential skills so they may successfully enter the mainstream of industrial/manufacturing activity, education, or government service, or to continue with postgraduate studies. To that end, the School of Engineering: continually improves the quality and currency of its instructional programs and monitors their outcome, equips engineering laboratories with modern and versatile equipment and software applications, provides support services - advising, self-paced learning, tutorials - as needed by engineering students, maintains a close working relationship with industry to better know its needs and identify new opportunities to serve it, maintains a close relationship with practitioners of the engineering disciplines to gain input in program development and outcomes assessment, maintains small-size engineering classes so that rigorous instructor-to-student and student-to-student interactions are an integral part of the pedagogy, and employs a teaching methodology that is centered on active student learning.
Students come to Fairfield's School of Engineering for practical reasons - to work in small-class settings, to collaborate closely with committed faculty in their area of expertise, and to live and learn with fellow logical thinkers so that pooling resources and working as a team becomes second nature. Here you'll learn how things work and make them work better. Today's technology promises solutions to complex problems, and you'll learn how to tackle them creatively and skillfully as well as collaboratively. But you'll gain more from your time at Fairfield than a skill set and a degree. You'll come to learn that Fairfield's 500-year-old Jesuit tradition of academic rigor and personal reflection will lead to problem-solving skills that are indelible and durable.
