|About||First Friends Learning Center, Where Friendship and Learning Go Hand-in-Hand|
|Mission||The mission of First Friends Learning Center is to provide a nurturing, secure, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children, incorporating the diverse needs of the individual families within the community.|
Who We Are!
The unique environment at First Friends Learning Center has a cozy, homelike feel to it that it serves as a soft transition from home to child care. Forming friendships with others and developing a sense of belonging to a group gives children the confidence to investigate their world and explore their interests.
Because First Friends is a small center with a student population under 50, children and staff see each other frequently and form relationships beyond the confines of their own classrooms. This sets the stage for smooth transitions as the child grows older and moves from one classroom to another. In this environment of an inviting, welcoming, and care community, learning experiences in art, literature, music, science, math and citizenship can occur throughout the day.
Outdoor play is critical to the health of children. In addition to providing an area where children can exercise large muscles and develop gross motor skills, the playground creates opportunities for children to explore the natural world with all of their senses.
On of the favorite spots on the playground is a raised bed planting garden. It is here that children plant seeds and have their sense of wonder sparked by the germination, growth, harvesting, preparation, and eating of vegetables and herbs. Flowering shrubs, annual flowers, and perennial plants provide inspiration for artwork and attract butterflies and interesting insects for observation. Science is alive on the First Friends playground!
