|About||FWD Theatre Project's mission is to establish Chicago as a premier place to develop the new American musical by producing a festival of new works.|
FWD Theatre Project (www.FWDTheatre.org) is dedicated to the Discovery, Development, and Delivery of the new American musical, building a Festival of Works in Development for the future of original musicals and benefit of the City of Chicago.
Founded in 2014, the company's mission is to advance Chicago as a premiere destination for new musical theatre by presenting public staged readings of the genre's best new works to Chicago’s producing entities for future full production consideration. In support of this effort, FWD creates educational and community outreach opportunities to the greater community for expansion of musical theatre cultural awareness.
FWD’s 2014/2015 inaugural season began with a powerful industry launch concert (headlined by newly-minted Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller) followed by five sold out staged readings of new works. Exceptional quality and high profile artists helped to quickly make FWD one of Chicago's boldest and most-watched new arts organizations. Multiple articles and features by the Tribune, Sun Times, Broadway World, and other leading publications pushed FWD to wide attention and support.
FWD's readings feature full Equity casts, top musicians, industry-leading directors (Henry Godinez, Jay Binder, Amber Mak, Bill Brown), musical directors (Doug Peck, Alex Newkirk, Roberta Duchak), and are presented at powerhouse venues like City Winery and Thalia Hall for discerning audiences of 100-400.
On September 28th 2015, FWD launched its second season with a sold-out world premiere concert reading of Boublil & Schönberg’s La Revolution Française (directed by David Bell and presented in co-production with American Music Theatre Project.) The writers spent ten days in Chicago honing the piece with FWD for this amazing one-night-only event. Season 2 continues with a January 2016 concert followed by four more premiere musicals presented between February and July.
