A large number of people who deal with the public in their everyday life and jobs have limited to no training at all with dealing with difficult people. I was a police officer for 20 years in Grand Rapids, MI, most all of it on night shift, and conflict de-escalation is what I did just about every night. I teach simple de-escalation techniques that I know work, and that are time tested year after year to work more often than not with angry people or persons having a mental melt down. I share personal stories from my patrol experience to illustrate the concepts and show how they work in the real world, in a real volatile situation, and then I facilitate scenario role playing to reinforce the training.
