Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union
Ständige Vertretung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland bei der Europ. Union
The Permanent Representation has a key role in advancing German interests in the EU and feeding back information from Brussels to Berlin.
Foremost, the Permanent Representation, as any diplomatic mission, is mediator between a country and the organisation that it is accredited to. In this respect, it represents German interests towards the European institutions, i.e. in the Council of the European Union, vis-à-vis the European Commission and the European Parliament.
The Permanent Representation has around 190 employees. It is headed by the Permanent Representative to the European Union. It divides into three main departments - politics, economics and finance - as well as a range of specialized divisions that together cover the whole range of European policy.
