|About||Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) Head Start at Flint, Beecher and Carman Ainsworth|
|Mission||Head Start advocates, supports and provides comprehensive quality services for children and families through community and family partnerships.|
Genesee Intermediate School District's Head Start Program provides FREE high quality comprehensive preschool services to Genesee county children ages 3 - 5 years of age in Flint, Carman Ainsworth and Beecher Community School Districts, who meet eligibility guidelines.
Children who attend a high quality preschool program prior to attending kindergarten are better prepared for school academically, socially, and emotionally.
The GISD Head Start program utilizes a research-based curriculum, which is offered in a supportive learning environment. The GISD Head Start program recognizes that parents are a child's first and most important teacher, parent involvement is highly encouraged.
Head Start is a federally-funded preschool program. It's success is based on compassionate partnerships between Head Start program staff and parents. In Genesee County, local Head Start sites work with families to remove barriers to success and to promote Kindergarten readiness skills.
Expectations of the programs include entering kindergarten with emotional readiness and social competence; developing an approach to their own learning; communicating with their peers and the adults around them; and having an understanding and a body of general knowledge.
GISD Head Start preschool programs are available to residents in the Flint, Carman-Ainsworth, and Beecher school districts.
