The Hawai‘i Association of REALTORS® (HAR), “The Voice for Real Estate in Hawai‘i,” is the state’s largest trade association, representing about 9,000 members across the state involved in all aspects of real estate.
The purpose of HAR is to enhance the ability of its members to successfully practice their profession ethically and competently, to serve the community, and to protect private property rights.
HAR works in partnership with local and national REALTOR® organizations to provide products and services to its members, to support the industry through legislative advocacy, and to enhance and promote the REALTOR® image.
The Hawai'i Association of REALTORS® (HAR) is the largest professional trade organization in the State of Hawai'i. Founded in 1967, HAR has 8,000 members who are active real estate licensees involved in all aspects related to the sale, purchase, exchange or lease of real property in Hawai'i. Along with HAR, members belong to one or more of the six affiliated local boards throughout the State and the National Association of REALTORS®.
As a member of HAR, a variety of top quality services, programs and activities are available to REALTORS® throughout the year. All of which are designed to enhance REALTORS® business practices. Some of these services include education, legislative support, conventions and seminars, standard forms and membership publication.
The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.
Facts About HAR
•When HAR was first established as the statewide trade association for real estate professionals in 1967, it was called the Hawaii Association of Real Estate Boards.
•The name changed to the Hawaii Association of REALTORS® in 1974.
•In 1967, membership totaled 900 brokers and salespersons; between 1967 and 1975, membership grew to over 6,000.
•Membership peaked at 10,000 in 1980 and again in 1990
•In 1977, HAR dues cost $25
•HAR’s first Executive Vice President was George A. “Red” Morris (1967 to 1975)
•HAR’s first President was H. Dickey Thacker
•HAR’s first REALTOR® of the Year was Ron H. Deisseroth
