|About||I. Fernando St. Malanday, Valenzuela City|
We, the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, guided by the Gospel and the Holy Spirit, inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary are being called to share in the discipleship of Christ with the leaders and members of our Mother Church do hereby commit ourselves to The Sacred Heart of Jesus and The Immaculate Heart of Mary in the service of faith and the formation of basic ecclesial communities, in reparation for all our sins committed against them.
Aware of the social dimension of our existence, we strive to form ourselves and our brothers and sisters into mature Christian individuals by mind and by heart; imbued with ideals of truth, Christian values and attitudes; guided by the teachings of the church, and committed to participate in the realization of the goals and aspirations of our community and the Filipino people.
In the process, we promote integral human and Christian development of people with preference for the poor and neighboring communities through faith-enriching activities and extension services.
In humility, we hope to accomplish our mission directed towards God through the alliance of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary through communal efforts from the hearts by becoming living signs of what we profess.
-Souvenir Program 2002
The structure of the church was originally built on October 1994 to replace the old Sto. Cristo Chapel located near the busy road of Malanday. The masses at the chapel was presided by the priests from San Diego de Alcala Parish at Polo, Valenzuela.
Due to the growing numbers of the faithful, and the disturbing noise at the location of the original chapel, a plan to have a bigger chapel was made.
Through God's grace and with the help of some generous land proprietor, the new bigger chapel was built at I. Fernando St., Sitio Hulo, Malanday.
The new site is more peaceful, wider and perfect to accommodate the growing worshipping people of Malanday to celebrate God's presence in their midst.
When everything falls into places, Msgr. Epitacio V. Castro sees the evolution of the new chapel and decided to make a recommendation to the Bishop of Malolos to make it a Quasi-Parish.
On June 24, 1997, Rev. Fr. Dindo M. Hilario, a native of Pulilan, was assigned to lead the laity of Malanday and to take in charge on the continuous constructions of the church.
After 4 successful years of building not only the structural formation of the church but also the harmonious union of the people, His Excellency Bishop Rolando J. Tria-Tirona declared the quasi-parish to be a full pledge Parish on the 24th of June 2001.
It was also the day when Fr. Dindo was installed to be the first Parish Priest of the parish.
Why Hearts of Jesus and Mary?
The name of the parish roots from a large pool of suggested names and titles submitted by the parishioners. Some names that are suggested to be the name of the parish are:
Parish of Sto. Kristo
This name originated from the fact that the patron of the chapel of Malanday is the Santo Kristo.
Parish of Mary, the...
Probably wondering what the".." means? It's the multitude of titles that our Mother Mary have. And most of her titles have also been suggested.
Parish of St. John the Baptist
This one almost made it to be the name of our parish,
