|About||Introduction of the Worlds best Solar Lanterns for individuals to Cameroon and Central Africa|
|Mission||One BRIGHT light in every Cameroonian home!|
Cameroon with a population of about 22.5 million people has about 52 percent of the population off grid. In the on-grid areas; that is urban and sub-urban areas, there are also issues of high electricity costs, unpredictable power supply, and constant acute power cuts. This leaves families everywhere around the country in need of extra power supplies to care for their daily needs. Some use diesel generators and some use Kerosene lamps, torch lights and candles to provide for their needs. In addition to this, the growing use of mobile phones brings extra need for power. This means that families with no electricity or with frequent cuts must travel to places with generators or to village centers or avoid communication altogether when electricity breaks occur.
The prices of kerosene in Cameroon have increased early summer 2014 for those using this as their extra source of power, costs have increased. Candles available in the market are usually of bad quality and do not last, and so do many torch lights and batteries that follow. The load on the family economies increases as they move towards a better living standard. Incomes have not increased at the same rate. This means that while the off-grid family needs a new solution to cater for their basic needs, the urban and sub-urban family would save a considerable amount of money on new means of powering the same.
Cameroon has high availability of sunlight most of the year and this free source of energy could be used to better the lives of the population considerably!
In addition to the cost issues, there are the health issues connected to the use of kerosene lamps, and diesel generators such as the eye problems that come from using candles and kerosene lanterns for reading and problems arising from the inhalation of fumes from kerosene indoors. This again leads to further economic problems due to the fact that the cost of medicines and healthcare is high in Cameroon and lack of information keeps the poorest unknowing a
