|Mission||Arming scientists and engineers with the right skills to pursue research and become successful professionals in the 21st century marketplace.|
In 2015 the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) and Northwestern University were awarded one of the first National Science Foundation Research Traineeship grants (NRT) in data enabled science and engineering. This multi-million dollar grant enabled the launch of Interdisciplinary Data-Driven Discovery in Earth and Astrophysical Sciences (IDEAS).
IDEAS is a multi-faceted program designed for Masters and PhD graduate students at Northwestern in the departments of Physics & Astronomy, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. All participants in the program have as a focus of their research one of three major research projects: EarthScope, adLIGO, or LSST.
