Description In September of 2002, Fairfield University welcomed its first class of sophomores into the inaugural year of the Ignatian Residential College, a program made possible through a grant from the Lilly Endowment. This year the Ignatian College will celebrate its 10th Anniversary. The program was designed as a one-year experience for sophomores, giving them a structured academic, social and residential experience to help them consider three fundamental questions of vocation: Who am I?; Whose am I?; and Who am I called to be?. The year long experience is meant to be a ‘cave experience’ of self exploration, inspired by St Ignatius’ famous spiritual experience at Manresa. The main components of the program include Mentor groups, academic courses, retreats, orientations, dinners, lectures and student-initiated activities. There is a very conscious attempt to create strong community within the College. As the program enters its tenth year, it is evident that it has had a very positive impact on our students, and indeed on the entire University community.
