|About||Jack is the Secretary of Gloucester Labour and wants as many people in Gloucester to join the CLP so we can take the fight to the Tories. Too much damage has been done and enough is enough. #ForTheMany|
Too many people in Gloucester are not being listened to by the Tories and Lib Dems. My name is Jack Fayter, I am the Secretary of Gloucester Labour and former candidate for Kingsholm & Wotton and my pledge to you is: I will listen, and together we can get our community's voices heard in the City and our County.
Let's fight against selling out our community on the altar of ‘austerity’.
The Tories and Lib Dems do not care about you, your family or our communities. They have slashed budgets for everything from children’s centres to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Their cuts are directly causing harm and creating poverty. It is criminal that we have residents who have to choose between heating and eating. It is downright wrong that we have citizens relying on the food bank on Great Western Road. The city has lost its homeless shelters; slashes to benefits mean that many might not be able to afford their tenancies; drink and drugs; knife crime and anti-social behaviour is growing.
We cannot allow Tory public sector vandalism, and Lib Dem apathy to cause any more of this. The Lib Dems' support for cuts is well known. They submitted only two tiny amendments to the last City Council budget, one on bins, and the other piggy-backing off of Labour's rejection of advice services cuts. The Lib Dems helped the worst of our city budget through by abstaining on Labour's alternative budget proposals. Jeremy Hilton then suggested to us, in their newsletter, that Lib Dems opposed cuts, when in the Coalition the Lib Dems worked with the Tories to bring cuts in.
Enough is enough.
I’ve lived in Gloucester since I was four. I love this city, but I am appalled at how a fixed set of the same local politicians has held it back. We are a brilliant city, filled with talented and kind people, and we sit in a beautiful county. We deserve better than what we’ve got. We need new ideas and fresh talent. We need youth and energy, and we need to take control of our city back from those who seek to
