1993 Mr. Upali Wijesinghe decided to form a non-government organization to help needy people in Southern province Matara district, as a result of his father’s death commemoration, mr jayatissa wijesinghe, who was a famous social worker at that time. The organization was born as Jayatissa wijesinghe foundation under an act of parliament in 1993, to develop the standards of Health and Education sector.
Upali Wijesinghe who drafted the act was the deputy director of sri lanka parliament. Founder executive president was Mr sam wijesinghe, who played a significant role in sri lanka parliament as the secretary general of parliament for 13 years and later assumed duties as the ombudsman. The executive committee and members of this movement strengthened with Lawyers, professionals and Intellectuals in the country and worldwide. Current Executive President of this organization is R.Dananjaya Wijesinghe, grandnephew of mr sam wijesinghe and also scholars in Law and Business Administration plus management.
