|About||We provide homeless families in Kolkata with much needed plastic roofs, mosquito nets, and books, in a highly effective and transparent way. We have fun.|
The Kolkata Effective Monsoon Relief consists of myself (Tomás Magalhães) and my friend Aladdin who lived on the street most of his life and has a cycle rickshaw. It is a temporary venture which runs during June and July and which has the objective of helping the homeless get through the monsoon season with some much needed help.
We provide donors with a very direct experience regarding their donations. This can be in the form of live video, or through tagged video or audio posts regarding the specific donor's direct contribution. Always, naturally, with the consent of those being helped.

My objective was to find a good balance between giving street families all the important things they need, and helping the largest amount of families possible. All these experiments, along with many conversations, led me to create the following optimized package for distribution:

- One family size mosquito net. (1.8m x 2.10m)
- One combined elementary English, Maths and Bengali book.
Each package has a total cost of 275 Rupees which translates to €4.00.
Every single rupee can be accounted for in this spreadsheet:
We predict that one package will help an average of 4 people during 3 years.
This means a total of 12 people-years.
In other words, for only €0.33 you'll be giving another fellow human being some much needed shelter and mosquito protection for a whole year. You'll also be giving a book to learn English, Maths and Bengali that might change the course of their life. Adults may also benefit greatly from these books. Aladdin, for example, who is 25, is o
