How is it that in the greatest city in the world there’s not one café where you can have lunch with a cat in your lap?

Now there is.

Koneko means “kitten” in Japanese, and we take our inspiration from cat cafés in Japan, where there are hundreds. Koneko is the first authentic Japanese-style cat café in the United States.

Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Koneko has an artisanal Japanese-influenced menu – and a big, furry family of adoptable cats. We also have a beautiful architect-designed space, including a revolving exhibition of world-class artwork, and a first-of-its-kind Cat Garden.

Koneko’s central mission is to find loving homes for high-risk shelter cats from the city’s kill list. Aside from facilitating the adoption of our own cats, we run fundraisers and weekend events for our amazing rescue partners, Anjellicle Cats Rescue, City Critters, K9 Kastle.
