Mission The Los Angeles County Junior Golf Program (LACJGP) exists to provide today’s youth with an opportunity to experience the game of a lifetime. Our County staff is committed to creating and maintaining a golf program geared to introducing youngsters to County facilities and exposing them to valuable life skills such as Respect, Integrity, Character and Honor (RICH).
Description The LACJGP is a year round program. The program offers free golf lessons to juniors, 18 and under. Weeklong after school and summer programs as well as one day clinics are offered. The program travels to all five Los Angeles County Supervisorial Districts, including 17 golf course properties.

The LACJGP also offers quality junior golf tournaments. In the summer of 2006, the first ever Los Angeles County Public Links Junior Golf Championship was held. Five qualifying tournaments were held with 781 participants; and 118 qualifiers competing in the Final Championship. Seven L.A. County Champions were named for the very first time. Our 2007 summer hosted 922 participants with 119 qualifiers competing in the Final. A separate tournament was also held honoring longtime junior golf supporter Len Kennett at Lakewood Golf Course with 189 participants. All totaled, 2,129 players have participated in thirteen events.

The LACJGP employs two full time positions, Mike McMonegal, Program Director for the Southern Section and Tim Smith, Program Director for the Northern Section. Both are golf industry veterans and leaders in golf programming. Golf coaches (instructors) are hired on a part-time basis for the program. Each weeklong program requires 5 to 7 instructors, depending on the number of juniors that are participating. The Program Directors are responsible for overall management of the program which includes administration, hiring, scheduling, training and evaluation.
