|About||Stable housing, thriving businesses, strong communities.|
|Mission||LEDC’s mission is to drive the economic and social advancement of low- to moderate-income Latinos and other DC-area residents by equipping them with the skills and tools to achieve financial independence and become leaders in their communities.|
Working families deserve to live in affordable homes and own successful small businesses -- but too many are unable to turn these dreams into reality.
The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) equips Latinos and other D.C.-area residents with the skills and financial tools to create a better future for their families and communities. Participants in our programs learn how to buy and stay in their homes, take control of decisions affecting their apartment buildings, and start or expand small businesses. The entire D.C. area is stronger when all families have the power to achieve financial independence and join with their neighbors to improve their quality of life.
We provide services in three fields—small business development, homeownership counseling, and affordable housing preservation.
Small Business Development Services: With our microloans, technical assistance, training, commercial façade improvement, and organizing services, LEDC helps low to moderate-income businesses and entrepreneurs compete, thrive, and provide for their families and communities.
Homeownership Counseling: LEDC helps people purchase their first home through classes, workshops, individual counseling, including credit repair and application packaging for the DC Home Purchase Assistance Program. We accommodate clients’ individual needs to make sure they understand how to make a wise investment in a home. Our Foreclosure Intervention program helps homeowners pursue financial security and emotional stability by explaining to them the available options when facing the prospect of foreclosure and serving as a mediator between homeowners and lenders.
Affordable Housing Preservation: By organizing, educating and empowering tenants, we will prevent displacement and secure reliable, long-term, affordable housing, so that very low and low-income tenants can plan for their futures and build wealth for their families.
